The Parent does not Learn About Learning Gap

The Parent does not Learn About Learning Gap
A parent, Sara, is concerned because her son’s writing samples are hard to read and understand. He is not capitalising the first word in the sentences or often forgets to put punctuation at the end. She is concerned that as the writing becomes more advanced, he will fall behind.
Sara has come to the scheduled classroom visit in Teacher, James’s class. She hopes to discuss her son’s writing and possibly set him up with tutoring services to increase his foundational writing skills.
James is absent. Sara was not informed that he would not be there and was not given the option to reschedule the open classroom visit. She is not able to discuss her concern about her son’s writing and find a possible solution.
Because James was absent and did not inform the parent, the parent was not able to discuss his learning gap in writing and problem solve together to find a solution. She was also not offered another chance to visit. Sara’s son remains struggling in writing and the parent feels disconnected from his learning.
