Teachers Improve Their Practice and Teach to Mastery
In effective teaching classrooms, teachers create a learning culture as teachers model a culture of learning readiness, effort and behaviour. In the same way, coaches and principals model a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging teachers to apply evidence-based learnings and share their success with peers.
How It Works

Principals and coaches support teachers to:
- support their students as they learn, develop their knowledge, skills and ability to demonstrate mastery and ensure that students are making standard progress or catching up
- objectively reflect on their professional practice and the way it affects students’ motivation, engagement and learning, and are open to coaching to achieve the best outcomes for their students
- engage in professional conversations with instructional leaders and members of the teaching team to learn from one another and replicate their improvements and successes
- improve their delivery of effective teaching techniques and practices
- develop an understanding what teaching to mastery involves and looks like and build confidence that they can consistently and effectively teach to mastery.
