Teacher Does Not Model High Expectations for Students

Teacher Does Not Model High Expectations for Students
Teacher, Tabitha, established classroom expectations with her class. She posted the matrix in her class and refers to it regularly to reinforce the expected behaviours. One of the expectations is that they arrive on time and are ready for learning.
Lately, however, Tabitha has been having difficulty getting to class on time. She spends too much time in the teacher staff room before lessons and often runs late. Students who are waiting in the hall are misbehaving and disrupting the other classes. Once in the class, she is not ready to start the lesson on time and students are often waiting quite a few minutes before the learning starts.
Students in the class are noticing and class behaviour is deteriorating. Tabitha finds it increasingly difficult to get the class started without raising her voice.
Tabitha did not model high-expectations behaviour by arriving late for class and by not being ready on time. She has a responsibility to model the expectations to her students and fellow teachers. It will now be harder to get students to adhere to the classroom and school rules, and Tabitha will have to change her habits in order to improve the students’ behaviour.
