Pedagogy and Resources
Writing uses the explicit instruction pedagogy and lesson delivery approach.
Pedagogy
Students achieve mastery through repetition, structure, and discipline. The Writing lessons are structured around a Write, Improve and Edit cycle. Teachers present students with the Success Criteria at the start of each lesson, so that students know what success looks like at each stage of learning.

You will learn more about the pedagogical approaches that underpin Writing lessons, as well as the structure of individual lessons, in Lesson 2 of this professional learning module.
Resources
There are differences between the materials provided for Foundation and for Years 1 to 6. Students in Foundation are beginning writers, and as such they are still grasping the basics of working with written English as a medium of communication.
You will learn more about the teaching resources provided to support the delivery of Writing lessons, and the differences between the materials for Foundation and for Years 1 to 6, in Lessons 2 and 3 of this professional learning module.
