Responding to Inappropriate Behaviour

A positive high expectations Behaviour Management Model includes the design of specific procedures for responding to inappropriate behaviour. This includes strategies for:

  • preventing inappropriate behaviour
  • correcting behavioural errors
  • addressing misbehaviour on a continuum
  • providing logical consequences.

Teachers consistently implement these strategies and procedures to effectively address behaviours and create continuity across the school in how behaviour is addressed. When teachers use these practices with fidelity:

  • behavioural data for designing new interventions is reliable
  • students and parents have a clear understanding of the expectations and consequences
  • anomalies are easily identified and targeted to support the teaching team.
