Use a hand-drop signal when students are focused on the teacher. For example:
Say the days of the week starting with Sunday.
Focus
The teacher has hand up in the ‘stop’ position when talking.
Think time
Teacher pauses for a couple of seconds after finishing direction.
Cue
Get ready.
Interval
Teacher pauses one-second.
Signal
Teacher crisply drops hand. Students respond ‘Sunday, Monday’ etc. while hand is down.
