Basic evidence

The basic evidence track in Comprehension A, begins in lesson 15 and continues through lesson 60. It has three formats.

The first format acquaints students with the idea that they must choose from a limited set of facts, to explain why a particular outcome occurs.

The two remaining formats are abbreviated versions of the first format. They provide less fact repetition, before presenting the problems that involve the facts.

The process for the first format is:

  • Say, ‘You’re going to use two facts to explain things that happened. These are the only facts you can use.’
  • Hold up one finger. Say, ‘First fact. The man was very strong. Say it.’ Signal. Repeat until firm.
  • Hold up two fingers. Say, ‘Second fact. The plane had a broken engine. Say it.’ Signal. Repeat until firm.
  • Say, ‘Everybody, say those facts again.’ Hold up one finger. ‘First fact.’ Hold up two fingers. ‘Second fact.’ Repeat until the students say the facts in order.
  • The teacher tells the students what happened, and the students tell which fact, explains why it happened. Students repeat the facts four times, before the teacher tells them what happened.
