Comprehension A analogies

The analogies track begins in lesson 21 and continues through lesson 60. There are several objectives of the analogies track:

  • Apply the information students have learned about same (same position, material, colour, location).
  • Teach the traditional format of an analogy.
  • Prompt the student to complete analogies with a variety of responses.

The first format introduces the word analogy and presents the tests for constructing an analogy.

The process is:

  • The rule for the analogy is presented. (The analogy will tell how animals move).
  • The animals used in the analogy are named (a hawk and a whale).
  • Teachers show students how to construct the first part of the analogy by naming the first animal and indicating how it moves (a hawk is to flying).
  • Teachers show students how to construct the second part of the analogy by naming the other animal and indicating how it moves (a whale is to swimming).
  • Students say the entire analogy.
