Matching Single Cards

Matching formats teach students to attend to the parts in a sequence. A few beginning lessons on matching formats prepare students to use matching skills to solve problems independently. An auditory signal is used for matching exercises.

The process is:

  • The teacher says, ‘look at my card’ and checks that students are looking at the card.
  • The teacher says, ‘you have a card that looks like my card; when I when tap, hold up the card that looks just like my card’ and signals (auditory).
  • The teacher says, ‘Let’s check to see if everybody is holding up a card that looks just like my card’ and holds their card above each student’s card.
  • If the cards are identical the teacher says, ‘Your card looks just like my card, good!’
