Hand-drop signal

Use a hand drop signal when students are focused on the teacher.For example:


Focus
The teacher has hand up in the ‘stop’ position when talking.


Think time
Teacher pauses a couple of seconds after finishing direction.


Cue
Get ready.


Interval
Teacher pauses on second.


Signal
Teacher crisply drops hand. Students respond ‘Sunday, Monday’ etc. while hand is down.

Practise with these questions:

• What day is today?
• What day will be tomorrow?
• What day was it yesterday?
• What’s 2+2?
• Name the Australian prime minister.
• What’s the capital of Australia?
• What colour is the sky?
• New Year’s Eve is on what date?
