Teacher Applies Improvement
Teacher Sandra is meeting with instruction coach Rachel to discuss student data that is directly correlated with specific teaching techniques. Rachel shows Sandra that every time she implemented affirmations during their students’ learning, their learning outcomes were positive. When she did not implement praise and affirmations with fidelity, students were less encouraged and motivated. As a result, student outcomes remained stagnant or decreased.

Rachel demonstrates how to implement the simple praise ‘yes’ when the students get a correct answer. Rachel not only says the word, but also makes sure it sincere by also giving a high-five. Once the demonstration is over, Sandra practises the technique throughout each lesson for the next week. Sandra and Rachel reconvene to look over student outcomes from the previous week. Student educational outcomes have improved.
