School mission

The school mission builds on the vision. It includes actions to be taken and explains how the vision will be realised. In a positive high-expectations school, the commitment to teaching, learning and positive behaviour is made clear. The mission includes a statement about partnering with parents and community and honouring cultural diversity.

‘A mission statement is the wind that brings you to your desired harbor [sic]. It guides your travel and powers your momentum… Mission statements are the “how-to” statements or action plans that help schools achieve their vision. They prompt change and growth. The mission is the touch point that can help you determine whether what should be happening, is in fact happening.’  (Gabriel and Farmer, 2009)
