Fostering a Positive High Expectations Culture

Step 1:

Instruction Coach Mary collaborates annually with Principal Anderson to understand the school context and promote a positive high-expectations culture. Mary, alongside Anderson, meets with the leadership team, teaching team and community to gain insights into the school context. They discuss current challenges, achievements and aspirations, creating a foundation for informed decision-making and tailored support.

Step 2:

Mary conducts interviews and surveys to understand the impact of home life on students’ attendance, school readiness and well-being. By actively engaging with the community, she identifies key factors influencing students’ lives, allowing for targeted interventions and support strategies.

Step 4:

Observing the teaching team, Mary actively supports their efforts to set and maintain high expectations in the classroom. Regular collaborative sessions focus on refining effective teaching techniques, acknowledging successes and fostering a commitment to ongoing improvement.

Step 3:

Mary emphasises the importance of a positive high-expectations culture, aligning with the school-wide expectations outlined in the video. She reinforces these expectations through the school-wide behaviour plan, ensuring consistency in promoting a culture where all students are believed to be capable of learning.
