A Team Effort Can reach the School Improvement Goals
Instructional coach, Laura, has reviewed the data provided by the latest School Improvement report and has identified improvements in student attendance of 26 percent since last semester. This is due to the implementation of the attendance strategy with school and classroom interventions that are being actioned daily to address the problem.
This improvement will be celebrated with teachers at the next staff meeting and shared with parents and students on social media, on the notice boards as well as at the weekly assemblies.

Laura has also suggested more specific ways to increase attendance to reach the 90 percent attendance by all pupils to ensure that they have enough time on instruction to progress their literacy and numeracy skills to reach the national average. One strategy that Laura suggests to Principal, Dan, is separating the lo low attenders into separate classrooms so not disrupt other students but also to attend to their individual needs. This strategy is shared at the following staff meeting and the teachers are on board.
This strategy is implemented by Dan by shuffling the students to create these separate classrooms. The strategy has been shared with parents and community members through individual phone calls home to students who are moved classrooms. There are also forums for parents to support them with strategies on how to ensure their children attend school regularly. Parents are supportive of the actions and interventions the school has implemented.
Attendance data in the following weeks show not only a consistent improvement in attendance with these students but also an improvement in their learning gains. By the end of the semester, Laura reports that attendance on most students has reached 90 percent. Through a team effort from all stakeholders, the school has reached their attendance goals.
