Educational Outcomes for Students Do Not Improve

When teachers do not explicitly teach clear rules and routines, the learning environment is less organised and less focused. This leads to an increase in unwanted behavioural issues, which means teachers spend less time on instruction and students cannot engage effectively in their learning.

The Problem is Compounded

When the teaching team do not explicitly teach rules and routines:

• students do not know how to do activities and tasks
• students do not have expectations set for them
• students are not engaged in their learning
• the classroom does not operate smoothly which does not maximise teaching and learning time
• students do not know the expectations and do not behave in an appropriate manner.

When the teaching team is not confident in their ability to explicitly teach rules and routines, they cannot:

• teach for the full timetabled period
• complete lessons in standard time
• meet standard lesson progress rate
• achieve mastery with their students.
