Module Completion Survey1 Topic

The Impact of Not Using Prompting
Step 1: Teacher Alinta’s students are attending a school assembly in the afternoon. At the beginning of the school year, Alinta explicitly taught her students how they were expected to behave during an assembly, so she assumes they all remember what is expected of them.
Step 2: During morning meeting that day, Alinta tells her students they will be going to an assembly that afternoon but does not review the behavioural expectations with them.
Step 3: Alinta and her class arrive at the assembly. Many of her students show inappropriate behaviours, such as sitting on their knees, calling out, whispering with their classmates or fidgeting in their spots. The speaker at the assembly must reprimand a student from Alinta’s class who continually interrupted him during his presentation. Alinta needed to respond to misbehaviour and remove students from their seats in the middle of the presentation.
Step 4: Alinta’s class did not remember the behavioural expectations for an assembly. The rest of the audience, and the speaker himself, were affected by this. After the assembly, Alinta must use a punitive response to reprimand her class. Anita could have avoided this had she reviewed and practised expectations with her class ahead of time.
