Does Not Utilise a Variety of Strategies for Corrective Responses

Teachers do not utilise a variety of strategies for corrective responses to address inappropriate behaviour. They may ignore or miss early indications of inappropriate behaviour, allowing poor behaviour to escalate. Poor behaviours continue, interfering with student learning

The Problem is Compounded

As a result of teachers not utilising strategies for corrective responses for inappropriate behaviour, teachers:

• do not notice early signs of student tension before stronger feelings build
• are unable to identify antecedent or trigger to the behaviour
• inconsistently uses non-verbal gestures to get students’ attention
• respond to inappropriate behaviours long after the behaviour occurs
• fail to utilise strategies such as proximity and redirection to bring student’s focus back to their learning
• inconsistently uses further consequences if inappropriate behaviour continues.
