Student Academic Performance Does Not Improve
Behaviour can have a direct impact on academic performance. If behavioural problems exist, it is more difficult for students to access and process academic content. When behaviour plans are not enacted with fidelity, academic performance can also suffer.
Teacher:
- does not identify how behaviour impacts student’s ability to process academic content
- does not implement academic accommodations such as preferential seating, extended time, or modified workload to help the student achieve success
- cannot focus on instruction because they are occupied with responding to misbehaviour
- does not promote equity in the classroom.
Student:
- Is not provided with accommodations so they can process academic content more easily.
- Does not have access to tools and resources to help them understand and apply academic content.
- Is less likely to achieve growth in academic subjects.
