The Teacher does not Promote Expected

Behaviours: Example

Amanda (teacher) is teaching Year 4 students. She has not taught her students the expected behaviours and routines that are in place in her classroom.   As she is teaching her lesson, she makes comments such as, ‘Stop doing that’, ‘Billy, why do you always have to talk back’, ‘Great job’, ‘I told you to stop talking while I am teaching’, ‘Give that to me’, and ‘What are you doing?’ Most statements and questions are focusing on what the students should not be doing instead of promoting the expected behaviour Amanda has in her classroom. The one positive statement ‘Great job’ does not give enough information to the students to know what they did a great job on so that they know to repeat that behaviour.
