Teachers are not Practising Adequately to Improve their Practice

When a teacher is unfamiliar with the lesson content, they are not able to provide praise because they are concentrating on delivering the lesson, they do not think about praise or affirmations.

When the teacher does not know the lesson content, inappropriate student behaviour is usually up, as they are taking longer to deliver the lesson. The teacher reverts to what they know to do, which is to address the inappropriate behaviour and not provide praise to students who are displaying the desired behaviours.

The problem is compounded

  • The teacher is unfamiliar with the lesson content and associated techniques and practices. This disrupts the flow of the lessons and increases time required to deliver them.
  • The teacher is unable to complete the lessons in standard time or meet the expected lesson progress rates.
  • The teacher does not remember to provide specific positive praise and affirmations.
