Students are not Confident, Engaged Learners and do not have Appropriate Behaviour

The teacher does not explain what positive learning behaviours are required for academic success; students are not motivated to engage in their learning. When students consistently do not receive positive feedback on their learning progress, they lose confidence in their ability to learn.

The problem is compounded.

  • When students do not know what to do or how to do it, they become distracted, distract others or behave inappropriately. They are not focused on learning and are not confident learners.
  • Teachers do not set lesson progression goals to motivate students to focus and engage in the lesson.
  • Students do not experience success and are not motivated, which leads to inappropriate behaviour. Ultimately, they do not feel safe contributing or engaging in class, and do not build confidence in their ability to learn and achieve.
