Students are not Confident, Engaged Learners and do not have Appropriate Behaviour: Example

Emma (teacher) teaches science to all students in the school. At the beginning of the term, Emma tells her students that they are going to start a new science program. She tells them that it will be a lot of fun and that they will learn exciting things.

Once Emma begins teaching all of the students, she finds that she does not have time to provide feedback on their work. Some students choose not to participate in parts of the lesson they think are too hard. Inappropriate behaviours are on the rise in her classroom, and she tries to control them by telling students what they are doing wrong or sending them to the principal. Many of her students are not doing well in her class.

Emma does not have engaged, confident learners in her classroom. She has not taught her students what positive learning behaviours they need to succeed and has not motivated them with praise or goals to work toward to focus and engage them.
