The School Team and the Cycles of School Practice

The school team participates in leading the 8 Cycles of School Practice within the four key zones: Professional Learning, Data-Driven Improvement, Peer Collegiality and Community Engagement. These four zones address the major activities in the school through paired cycles in both the school and classroom domains.

The school leaders demonstrate leadership in the school domain, while the teaching team lead in the classroom domain. The paired cycles in each domain enable the school team to collaborate on their effective teaching effort.

Principal

The principal leads continuous improvement across the school community.

The principal develops and monitors the School Improvement Plan, uses data to ensure consistency across the school and regularly engages with classrooms through observations.

Great principals build a culture of collaboration across the school team and implement strategies to engage families and the wider community in the school’s activities and improvement efforts.

Instruction Coach

The instruction coach provides coaching to ensure that effective teaching occurs in every classroom in the school.

The instruction coach coordinates school-wide professional learning to ensure each team member receives training, conducts data reviews to determine improvement patterns to be replicated and completes classroom observations to support the teaching team in their practice.

Great instruction coaches lead lesson practice sessions to develop a culture of collegiality among the teaching team and support the principal in monitoring school improvement efforts.

Teacher

Teachers model a strong learning culture to students.

Teachers use data to assess student progress and learning and reflect on how to improve their practice to improve educational outcomes.

Great teachers offer complete visibility of their classrooms by ensuring open door policies to peers, leaders and parents; engage in professional learning to improve their delivery; and collaborate with their peers to maximise student success.

Teaching Assistant

Teaching assistants support the delivery of effective teaching.

Teaching assistants develop effective teaching techniques by engaging in professional learning and classroom coaching.

Great teaching assistants collaborate with their teachers to support learning by delivering and monitoring small group practice, setting up the classroom for teaching, collating data and participating in professional conversations.
