Error Correction Procedures

Student errors are to be expected in each lesson. One of the most important components of learning how to present each lesson is learning how to fluently use the error correction procedure. Practising this procedure allows you to follow each step with automaticity and will keep the lesson moving. You will learn about specific error correction procedures for different parts of the lesson in later lessons. Apply steps below to all word response errors in RMT 4–5. Review the correction steps below.

Model – This means you will tell the student the correct answer when you hear an error. Example: “That word is poster” – “What word?”

Spell – The students will then spell the word. Example: “Spell poster”

Test – Have the students read the word again on their own. Example: “What word did you spell?”

Retest – Go back to the beginning of the column or exercise and repeat. Example: “Let’s try that again” or “starting over”

This is a picture of RMT 4 lesson 2, exercise 3. Take a minute to read over this exercise. On the next page you will see a video demonstration of this exercise with the error correction procedure above.
