Opening the Lesson

In the last lesson

You learned how to set your classroom up for success by learning how to administer the placement test, how to group students according to results, and how to arrange your classroom for optimal learning. You also learned key Direct Instruction teaching techniques, such as signalling, pacing, teaching to mastery, and error corrections.

In this lesson

You will learn about the components in the beginning of each lesson and how the word practice and vocabulary exercises are carefully scaffolded to ensure student mastery. Participants will learn about the three main types of word lists and vocabulary exercises and how these are taught using both group and individual responses. You will gain a better understanding of specific correction procedures to build on what you learned in the previous lesson.

By the end of this lesson

You will understand how word practice and vocabulary exercises are taught, and how to incorporate individual turns as indicated in the script. Learners will gain a better understanding of how to implement correction procedures when presenting the word practice and vocabulary parts of the lesson.
