Teaching Vocabulary

Teaching suggestions for presenting vocabulary exercises:

  • Look in your script for directions to check whether the question should be directed to the group or an individual student.
  • For group responses, be sure to provide appropriate think time. Students need think time to formulate their response for vocabulary exercises. If the students start making several mistakes, the pace could be too fast.
  • If the question is directed to an individual, the teacher may need to repeat the student’s answer to make sure it was heard by the entire group.
  • Always correct errors immediately. You will learn more specifics about vocabulary corrections later in this lesson.
