Common Understanding and Common Practices

School systems implement specific practices that are proven to improve learning. School improvement involves doing several things well with consistency and urgency.

Schools agree on the common understandings, techniques and practices that support effective teaching and positive high expectations. The school team works together to implement and refine the common techniques and practices with professional learning, support and coaching, to provide effective teaching for all students.

School improvement efforts are strategically adapted and executed purposefully throughout the school.

  • The school team is responsible for implementing school-wide effective teaching and positive high-expectations behaviour strategies.
  • Parents and communities support the school’s efforts by regularly communicating the value of education to their children.
  • Students do their part by attending school regularly, working hard and actively engaging in learning.
  • Everyone associated with the school holds high expectations for student learning and behaviour, which are continuously reinforced.
