The Principal Supports Improvement

The principal is the visible instructional leader who models positive high expectations and leads continuous improvement across the school community.

The principal: 

  • is the instructional leader who leads from the front and adapts their leadership approach to suit the school context 
  • communicates the importance of continuous improvement with the school team and puts procedures in place to resolve issues that impede students’ success 
  • models a sense of urgency and a relentless pursuit of the team approach required to resolve issues that impede students’ success 
  • develops and monitors the School Improvement Plan, utilising data to ensure consistency across the school 
  • ensures consistency in delivering effective teaching techniques and practices in all classrooms and works on their own development through coaching and seeking expert advice 
  • is actively engaged in the classroom domain by regularly being in classrooms observing instruction as well as reviewing data and the instructional decisions of the teaching team 
  • creates opportunities to celebrate academic achievement and publicly recognise teacher and student successes 
  • builds a culture of professional collaboration, encouraging teachers to work together on improvement 
  • implements strategies to engage families and the wider community to best support students’ educational outcomes.
