Positive High Expectations

A positive high-expectations culture creates a school environment that enables students and adults to be their best selves. This environment is positive, safe, predictable and consistent.

To effectively build and sustain a culture of positive high expectations, schools embed an evidence-based behaviour model that establishes common practices throughout the learning community to ensure student and teacher interactions are consistent across all school settings.

This model uses effective teaching practices to integrate teaching of behaviour and social–emotional learning (SEL) alongside teaching of academic subjects. It also incorporates parent engagement to reinforce expected behaviours between school and home.

Schoolwide Programming

The implementation of schoolwide programs that positively address behaviour, create consistent routines and expectations, and integrate SEL are key to building and maintaining a positive high-expectations culture.

‘No Excuses’ as an Equitable Practice
Positive behaviour management helps teachers to build strong and compassionate relationships with their students, while enabling teachers to hold every student to the same high standard

– no matter their background.

This complementary relationship upholds a ‘no excuses’ school of thought, fostering equity and empowering every student to work hard and be their best self every day.
