Coaching Positive High Expectations

Coaching in a positive high-expectations school focuses primarily on supporting the ongoing development of knowledge, skills and techniques needed to grow and maintain a positive high-expectations culture.

In a positive high-expectations school, the coach carries out the following:

1. Consistently sends the message that they are committed to supporting the development of every child by modelling best practices and promoting the school’s vision and mission in all settings.

2. Trains and supports the school team through professional development, monitoring practices and program implementation fidelity, and aiding in the management of Tier 2 and Tier 3 student interventions.

3. Works with the Behaviour Management Team (BMT) to facilitate meetings, use and monitor data, and prepare solutions and presentations for the wider school community.

4. Promotes data-based decision-making to improve schoolwide practices and student behaviours.

5. Supports the principal in developing and supporting the school’s vision, mission, practices, programming, routines and expectations.

6. Actively engages the wider school community by facilitating conversations between teachers and parents and using effective methods for promoting a positive high-expectations culture at home.
