Point-touch signal in actions – pictures formats

In Lessons seventeen through forty-two, actions-pictures formats are taught. These formats use the point-touch signal.

The process is:

Emphasise the words, ‘this girl’ when saying ‘Say the whole thing about what this girl is doing,’ prompting students to begin their response with ‘this girl.’

The process:

  • The teacher points to the picture of the girl (hovering about one centimetre from the page, making sure not to cover the picture), and says, ‘Everybody, what is this?’ and signals (point-touch).
  • The teacher points again to the picture of the girl, says ‘Say the whole thing,’ and signals (point-touch).
  • The teacher points again to the picture of the girl, says ‘Listen. What is this girl doing?” and signals (point-touch).
  • The teacher points again to the picture, says ‘Let’s say the whole thing about what this girl is doing,’ and signals (point-touch).
  • The teacher says ‘again,’ signals, and the teacher and the students respond together.
  • The teacher points again to the picture, says ‘All by yourselves. Say the whole thing about what this girl is doing,’ and signals (point-touch).
