Corrections in actions – pronouns

Students often make mistakes when using the pronouns ‘I’ and ‘you’. Correct errors with the steps Model, Lead, Test, Retest and emphasise the words ‘I’ and ‘you’ appropriately.

Model – Stop. My turn. Listen. When I say, what am I doing? You say, Touching your ear.

Lead – Say it with me. What are I doing? Touching your ear.

Test – Your turn. What am I doing?

Retest – Let’s start that over again.

The process:

  • Students respond ‘We are touching the floor’ instead of ‘I am touching the floor’ in part one. This error is corrected by affirming that their response is reasonable and telling them to respond with ‘I’ when asked ‘What are you doing ?’
  • Students respond incorrectly in parts two and three when asked ‘What am I doing ?’ This error is corrected through model, lead, test.
