Teacher Receives Feedback from the Instruction Coach on a Lesson Taught

Shawn is teaching Connecting Math Concepts to a small group while her instruction coach, Morgan, observes. At the end of Shawn’s instruction, she wants to check for mastery to make sure the students understand what they just learned. This will determine whether she will move on to the next lesson or reteach this one. She calls on Mike to answer the first question and then continues to the remaining four. When the instruction coach and Shawn have a meeting about the observation, Morgan praises her on checking for student mastery over the current lesson. However, Shawn needed to implement wait time, or pause, before asking the question. It allows the students to think about the question and formulate an answer.
