Teacher Improve their Practice, Feel Supported
and Build Confidence
Principal Tanja has set the school improvement goals and provided her teaching team with an action plan containing specific actions and activities to implement.
Tanja conducts classroom observations throughout the term and analyses student data weekly with instruction coach Shaun to evaluate teachers or teaching assistants’ effective teaching practice and data collection process.
Tanja identifies school improvement issues and provides solutions to the teaching team during staff meetings. She makes sure to also include positive feedback affirming successful effective teaching or engagement techniques that are supporting students to mastery.
Tanja’s teaching team feel comfortable, supported and more open to feedback related to the areas of their practice that need improvement because of her professional conversation practice.

Following a classroom observation, principal Matti identified that teacher Morgan is having trouble with engagement techniques to support student learning. Matti organised a meeting with Morgan to discuss the observation feedback, in which Morgan confided that they often skip over some engagement techniques as they are not sure that they are doing them correctly and not all their students participate appropriately.
Matti gave Morgan teacher improvement actions to implement, let the instruction coach know of Morgan’s improvement focus and organised a follow-up observation.
When Matti conducts the follow-up observation, he notices significant improvements in Morgan’s use of engagement techniques. They are confident in the lesson delivery and their students actively participate and behave appropriately. Morgan feels supported and encouraged to continue improving their practice to support students learning.
