Students do not Actively Participate in the Lesson
Sean (teacher) is delivering a reading lesson. He is using the ‘point-touch signal’ with his students. He provides the verbal cue, “Get ready” and immediately touches the word to signal student response. The students have not been focused or provided with adequate ‘think time’. Some students respond confidently, while others hesitate, respond late or do not respond at all. These students struggle to keep up and are not confident in their ability to know when to respond, so do not participate.

Sean is not effectively using all parts of the signal, specifically, the focus and interval components. As a result, his students become distracted and are off-task.
