The Teacher and Students Celebrate Positive Outcomes

Teacher Ellen’s class has been working hard to earn a popcorn party. Each student is planning what they will bring, and Ellen has said that she will bring the popcorn bags to pop. Ellen uses the Objects in a Jar strategy. Each time she notices the class or a student demonstrating a target behaviour, she places a marble in a large clear jar. When the jar is full, they have earned the reward.

The class spends 20 minutes on Friday popping and eating popcorn. Ellen also reaches out to the principal, who visits the class to congratulate them. She takes videos of the students to post on the classroom social media and web page, which students are excited about because their parents will see them. Ellen also takes photos of the students at their popcorn party to include in the weekly email that goes home to parents.
