The Teacher Contributes to a High-Expectations School Culture

For positive motivation strategies to have a broader school impact, teachers effectively engage students in goal setting, progress and celebration across the campus. As students move through school, they expect to be engaged in goal-setting and monitoring and see how their progress connects from year to year. As students experience daily success, they feel competent and develop self-efficacy.

How It Works:

  • The teacher has high expectations for students regarding their engagement and learning.
  • The teacher demonstrates their commitment to mastery of effective teaching and to maximising educational outcomes for students.
  • The teacher creates an environment where reflecting on one’s practice and committing to continuous improvement is the norm.
  • The teacher displays academic achievement and examples of exemplar work.
  • The teacher creates a data wall for each student group, subject area, program and level, with weekly lesson progress targets and goals, and updates this after each lesson.
  • The teacher displays whole-class behaviour goals.
