Students are not Confident, Engaged Learners and do not Have Appropriate Behaviour

Teacher, Adelaide, has planned to progress through the maths curriculum and mentions to students that they will complete a lesson each day. But, two days into the curriculum, Adelaide’s students are not following directions. She is struggling to get through one lesson a day because she is taking time to redirect students who are not engaged, monitor and reprimand students who are distracting others, and remind students to focus on the lesson when they take out books to read or paper to draw on. By the end of the unit, Adelaide is disheartened, but not surprised, to find that students have not achieved mastery on their test.
