The Teacher Does Not Contribute to Building a High-Expectations Culture

When the teacher does not communicate and reinforce high expectations using positive motivation strategies, students are not making expected growth. When a teacher is not reinforcing high expectations while other teachers are, students do not work to meet high expectations and are not making the growth necessary to progress.

The Problem is Compounded

  • The teacher does not have high expectations for students regarding their engagement and learning.
  • The teacher does not model positive high expectations for their students.
  • The teacher does not demonstrate a commitment to mastery of effective teaching and does not maximise the educational outcomes of their students.
  • The teacher does not create an environment where reflecting on one’s practice and committing to continuous improvement is the norm.
  • The teacher does not display academic achievement or examples of exemplar work.
  • The teacher does not create a data wall for each student group, subject area, program and level with weekly lesson progress targets and goals, and does not update these after each lesson.
  • The teacher does not display whole-class behaviour goals.
