Defining Standard Time

Lessons are highly structured and designed to be
completed to mastery each instructional period.

If a group is not at mastery, the teacher repeats
the parts of the lesson students are struggling
with until the end of the lesson when students
are 100 per cent firm on lesson content.

When lessons are completed in standard time,
the teacher:

  • ensures they set up the lesson with the
    right equipment and seating arrangements
    prior to starting
  • establishes expectations and classroom
    routines
  • is familiar with the lesson content
  • only delivers the lesson content and not
    other activities
  • follows the script and uses that wording
  • paces the instruction appropriately and
ensures that transitions are effective and
    efficient.
