Meet Standard Lesson Progress Rate
The impact on this topic
In effective teaching, mastery and lesson progression are interconnected. Students are at mastery when they can repeat the content confidently and correctly. Lesson progression refers to the number of lessons that are completed in a day or a week.
How it works
Mastery and progress are like the two wings of an aeroplane. They need to be balanced for the plane to move forward smoothly.
Mastery and progress need to be balanced for students to make progress. The plane also needs altitude, meaning mastery and progress both need to be lifted.
While the plane is flying it needs speed, or appropriate lesson pace. The instruments to balance a plane are altitude and speed. The student progress tool (SPT) shows the flight path of the plane – where the student learning is heading and how.
