Lessons Cannot Be Completed in

Standard Time

When the teacher has not explicitly communicated expectations nad established routines valuable teaching time can be lost due to inefficient transitions or changes made to the programmed lesson. Without clear expectations and structure, students become confused, and the teacher must spend time repeating instructions or re-teaching part of the lessons.

Additionally, when the teacher alters the lesson script by asking students to complete alternative activities, valuable teaching time is lost.

What happens

The problem is compounded

When students are not sure what they should be doing, when they should be doing it and have a clear understanding of the process for doing it, learning time is lost.

When parts of the lesson are not completed due to the inclusion of alternative activities, the required repetition is not possible, and students do not have time for independent practise. The lesson must be continued into the next and the opportunity for timely application of what they have learned is missed.
