Students Cannot Make Standard Progress

Jacquie is teaching a Year 6 Oz-e Physics class. She is focused on engaging her students and communicating the real-life applications of the concepts to her students. The pace of Jacquie’s instruction is slow and as a result, Jacquie does not complete the lesson in the allocated time. She plants to complete the lesson during her lesson later in the week. In the next lesson, Jacquie gives students time to complete independent work, requiring students to apply their knowledge from the previous lesson. During work checks it becomes apparent that students are not firm. They have not been able to make connections between the instruction earlier in the week and their work in the current lesson. Jacquie must now go back and reteach the lesson. Not completing the lesson in standard time has affected student mastery and their ability to make standard progress.
