Students Disengage and Lose Confidence

When lessons are not completed in standard time, it is generally due to a range of factors that are within the control of the teacher. When teachers are unfamiliar with the lesson content, add additional content or do not set clear expectations and routines for the classroom, they are not able to complete all aspects of the lesson. Learning time is reduced, students do not have sufficient opportunity to practise to ensure mastery of the content. The teacher has not ensured that students are given the right conditions to master the content and demonstrate their understanding.

What happens

The problem is compounded

When lessons are not completed in standard time, students become confused, frustrated, bored and disengage from their learning. This affects their ability to understand the lesson content. when students consistently do not master the content, they lose confidence in their ability to learn.
