Students Disengage and Lose Confidence

Emily is teaching the Spelling Mastery Level C program for the first time. She is not confident in the lesson content or delivery. The pace of instruction and transitions between activities is slow. Students become frustrated and bored. They disengage and are off-task. Emily must now devote time to refocusing students and dealing with poor behaviour. The lesson is not completed and when students sit their mastery test the next day, they do not pass. Emily must remediate and retest the students. When students do not experience success and feel that they are making progress they lose confidence in their learning capabilities.
