Explicit and Direct Learning

Effective teaching is explicit and direct. Learning is not left to chance – it is carefully designed, presented and reinforced.

It is teaching that is targeted to the student’s current zone of development. Effective teaching immediately facilitates the student’s success because what is taught is close to what they already know, but also stretches their knowledge to new content.
