Place value and rounding track

This track starts in lesson one with a review of expanded notation. This includes work on rounding whole numbers and decimals.

Students work with two-digit numbers, then hundreds, thousands and millions.

If students are not firm on responding together or expressing place-value as addition it is corrected via model, test.

The process is:

  • The teacher displays, points to 53, says, ‘Read this number’, and signals.
  • The teacher says, ‘Here’s the place-value addition for 53: 53 equals 50 plus 3. Say the place-value addition for 53’, signals and repeats until firm.
  • The teacher repeats the process with the other three numbers.
  • The teacher directs the students to their workbook where students complete equations for three more numbers.
