Fraction analysis

Fraction analysis begins in lesson one and runs intermittently to lesson 119.

Lesson 1

Lesson one introduces diagrams of fractions; some are more than one.

Students start applying the analysis that tells that the denominator gives the number parts in each unit. The numerator tells the number of parts that are shaded.

Lesson 2

In lesson two, students compare a fraction to 1, operating from three facts:
1. If the top and bottom numbers are the same, the fraction equals 1.
2. If the top number is more than the bottom number, the fraction is more than 1.
3. If the top number is less than the bottom number, the fraction is less than 1.

Lesson 3

In lesson three, students write fractions from descriptions.

For example, the fraction is less than 1.
The numbers are 12 and 14.
