Students are not Focused on Their Learning

When the Teacher has not Embedded Routines and Expectations, Students Become Confused

Teacher, Clinton, is teaching a Year 3 science class about seasons. He has asked students to find a partner and discuss which season gets more sun because of the axis tilt in a pair-share activity. His students do not know who they are working with or how to structure their discussion. Clinton needs to repeat instructions and the steps in a pair-share. Some students are not confident that they know what they are doing and are therefore reluctant to share. Other students are using the allocated time to discuss unrelated matters.
