Using Individual Turns Informs Teaching Decisions

Impact of Using Individual Turns

Student mastery is more important than lesson completion. Ensuring students have mastered each step in the program sequence lays a solid foundation for future learning. Using individual turns effectively is one way to check for individual student mastery.

How it Works

Teachers give individual turns after each exercise. They focus on lower performers in their group. They monitor the mastery of each exercise. If students are not able to complete individual turns successfully, this is a cue for the teacher to reteach or firm students up on that exercise. During the delivery of every lesson, teachers constantly check if students have mastered the material before moving on.
